Daily Reflection by Rev Fr. Awoyemi Emmanuel, Ilorin Diocese, Nigeria

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY {02/07/2024}, THIRTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME B

For every action, there is a reaction. God continues to speak to us through the scripture to indeed free us from the error of darkness and shed his light on our path.

One thing that many of us don’t know is that it is not everything that we must seek God for. This is so because God has given us the capacity and the capability as humans to be able to carry out that task. A typical example is when a newly married couple wishes to have children, of course, they cannot have children without playing their marital roles to each other. This is something that must happen. An action must be done before we see the reaction.

From the first reading, we see prophet Amos sensitizing the people about their misdeeds before God and making them realize that when the wrath of God falls upon them, it is acts of their misdeeds and sinfulness. On the other side, God who is gracious may not be responsible for some of our misfortunes. Some of our misfortunes are been caused by our actions. Therefore in all, we must do what is right.

The scenario we have in the gospel insights something spectacular about our faith. When we truly examine this part of the gospel, Jesus expects his disciples to have that faith and confidence in Him even if in difficult moments because He is there with them. It seems Jesus was a little bit harsh on them because they have Jesus, why would they be thinking of perishing? This is where many of us find ourselves today. Jesus is with us always but we have doubts thinking that we will not succeed or have that fulfilled endeavor. Jesus wants every one of us to know that He is always present with us. Those right actions that we carry out, we don’t need to call God, He knows our actions even before we mention it to him. Even in that troubled sea of confusion, difficulties, temptations, sickness, or setbacks, God knows our plan. He knows what he will do to take every action concerning all the difficulties, confusions, temptations, etc.

That famous prayer of St. Padre Pio: Pray and don’t worry. Indeed, we should pray and don’t get ourselves worked up. God knows what to do in that situation. He knows the action that he must carry out in that situation. we too must also carry out our task. When this task is good, marked with God’s blessing, we shall continue to celebrate victory over every temptation confusion, and sickness through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pax Vobis
